The new Prescott and Russell Residence officially welcomed its first residents on Wednesday in Hawkesbury, after several years of delays. Seventy-three people have been transferred to the new facility at 900 Spence Avenue, while another 63 are scheduled to move in Thursday. Administrator Alexandre Gorman says the moves have gone faster than expected.

The new bilingual long-term care residence has 224 beds — 78 more than the old facility — helping address the growing demand for long-term care in Prescott-Russell. The $93-million project replaces the former residence, which opened in 1978, and includes modern facilities designed to provide a safe, healthy living environment and personalized care for residents.

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell says the project, launched in 2021, represents the largest project ever undertaken by the regional government. Residents are being supported during the move by healthcare professionals, community partners, family members and friends.
