Clarence-Rockland Mayor Mario Zanth says the city’s Cultural and Recreational Complex is not closing, despite questions and concerns circulating in the community about the facility’s future.
In a statement released Thursday, Zanth said the Complex “is not closing and never was.”
Discussions are currently taking place between the City of Clarence-Rockland administration and the YMCA administration about how the facility should operate in the future.
According to Zanth, the goal is to find a responsible and cost-effective approach while maintaining continuity of the programs and services residents rely on.
The mayor stressed that the negotiations are being handled by the two administrations and that City Council is not directly involved in the discussions.
Zanth also said he cannot comment on the positions of either side, the details of the discussions or what the eventual outcome could be.
“I recognize how important this facility is to our residents, families, and everyone who relies on its programs and services,” Zanth said. “I understand that uncertainty can be frustrating, and I appreciate the community’s patience while these discussions continue.”
There is currently no firm timeline for a decision.
Zanth says that once information is confirmed and can appropriately be made public, the City will communicate it through its official channels.
In the meantime, he is encouraging residents to rely on official City communications rather than speculation as discussions continue.
“Our priority is to approach this responsibly while keeping service continuity at the forefront,” Zanth said.
