Residents in Clarence-Rockland will have an opportunity to get rid of extra household waste and yard debris during the city’s Fall Cleanup Program, running September 21 through 25.
The program is for residential properties only, and collection will take place on each resident’s regular garbage collection day.
How to Prepare Your Items
Residents are asked to organize materials into separate areas at the curb:
- Recyclables, metal and yard waste — including grass, leaves and branches — should be placed on one side of the driveway.
- Regular garbage and bulky items should be placed on the opposite side of the driveway.
- All items must be at the curb before 6:30 a.m. on your collection day.
- The maximum amount that will be collected is 4 feet by 8 feet by 4 feet.
Metal Must Be Separated
Metal items need to be placed separately from the other cleanup materials because metal will be collected independently.
Residents with small engines, such as lawn mowers, are reminded to remove all oil and gasoline before putting them out for collection.
There are also special requirements for toilets: toilets must be separated into two pieces before being placed at the curb.
What Won’t Be Collected?
There are a number of materials that are not accepted through the Fall Cleanup Program.
These include:
- Mattresses and box springs
- Tires
- Animal carcasses
- Construction materials, including wood, wood with nails, drywall, soil, gravel, rocks, bricks, asphalt pavers and patio stones
- Hazardous materials
- Industrial waste and liquids
- Propane tanks
- Fluorescent tubes
- Vehicle bodies and vehicle parts
- Truck cabs and boats
- Tree trunks
- Recyclable materials already accepted through the blue and black box programs
- Electronics and batteries, including televisions, radios and DVD players
- Refrigerators and other appliances containing refrigerant gas
Residents should make sure prohibited items are not placed at the curb, as they will not be picked up as part of the cleanup.
The Fall Cleanup Program runs September 21–25, so residents should check their regular garbage collection day and have everything properly sorted and at the curb before 6:30 a.m.
