(Audio) Backpacks For The Homeless In It’s 13th Year

By Derrick Scott Dec 3, 2025 | 8:55 AM

This marks the 13th year of Backpacks For The Homeless, a non profit charity fundraiser that founder Ron Pitre put together as a way of doing great for others.  Since it’s conception, Pitre estimates that 10,00 have been handed out to the most vunerable over the years with a value of approximately over half a million dollars.

Families, businesses, schools, sports leagues, anyone, is encouraged to pick up an empty backpack at Son X Plus Technologies or GABS Restaurant & Bar.  Pitre said that this has become a tradition for many and hopes others will make it tradition beginning this year, and for years to come.

B.F.T.H. teamed up with The United Counties Of Prescott-Russell, who will distribute them to those in our region dealing with homelessness.

The backpacks will be distributed to everyone on December 23.   Ron Pitre was on The BIG Breakfast with Derrick Scott to talk about the initiative.  If you missed their conversation you can listen back at the link below.

“BIG-FM is here to help all non profit events, and charities across the region all year.” said Derrick Scott.  “If you (organizers of an upcoming event) want your event to really stand out, reach out to me and I’d love to have you on the morning show to talk about it.  It’s as easy as reaching out to me on social media, or drop me an email: derrick@bigfm.ca
